Big Seventh Helps A's End Yanks' Streak

The Athletics scored six runs in the seventh inning as they defeated the Yankees 6-4 to end their eight-game winning streak. Gio Gonzalez allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings, but the Yankees made things interesting with three runs in the eighth and by putting two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the ninth.

White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle threw a perfect game against the Rays on Thursday. Buehrle threw 116 pitches against Tampa Bay, striking out six batters while recording 27 straight outs. Chicago won the game 5-0 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Wright Snaps 0-For-17 Slump

The Mets ended a four-game skid with their third victory in 12 games by defeating the Dodgers by a final score of 5-4. David Wright snapped an 0-for-17 slump with his first RBI this month. Daniel Murphy doubled twice and made an incredible play at first base. "It was a big win for us," manager Jerry Manuel said. "We needed to win a game."

Phillies Rack Up 22 Runs Against Reds

The Phillies put 22 runs on the board Monday night against the Reds at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, and cruised to a victory in the opening game of their series against Cincinnati. After putting one run on the board in both the second and third inning, the Phillies scored four runs in the fourth and six runs in the eighth. Jayson Werth went 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs, including a grand slam in the eighth. Shane Victorino and Chase Utley both had 4 RBIs, with the outfielder going 4-for-5 and the second baseman going 2-for-3.
